The purpose of Missions & Engagement at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church is to train and equip ordinary people to go and do extraordinary things in the name of Jesus so that all might see, hear and experience God’s love in tangible ways.

National & International Missions

NOLA Mission Trip
Puerto Rico Mission Trip

Good Samaritan has participated in multiple mission trips in the past, both national and international, and we hope to continue to be a congregation that continues to answer God’s call to “go and make disciples of all nations.” [Matthew 28:19]

In 2019, members of Good Sam traveled to Puerto Rico with other members of the DC/Metro Synod as part of the Building Puentes (or ‘Building Bridges’) mission trip that helped the territory recover after Hurricane Maria. Members of Good Sam will return in 2020 to continue to aid in restoration and relief efforts.

In addition, members of Good Sam will travel to either New Orleans, Louisiana or Detroit, Michigan in June of this year to work with Camp Restore in efforts to develop and restore areas there. There is still time to join us in this effort! Contact Kelsey Knobloch, our Coordinator of Missions and Engagement, for more information.

Local Ministries

Members of Good Sam continue to work in the community around them to help those in need by reflecting the light of Christ.

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” [Matthew 5:15-16]

By helping those without steady sources of food, safe or warm shelter, or people trying to re-enter society, Good Sam hopes to partner with our local community in making a real difference.

Congregational Growth

God tells us through the words of Paul that we should bind ourselves together and encourage each other in our walks of faith.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” [Hebrews 10:24-25]

In addition to doing God’s work outside our walls, Good Sam is focused on growing our relationships with one another and those that join us in this space.
