Good Sam is supporting Seeds of Change, an education & fundraising event at Farming 4 Hunger (Serenity Farms) for our tri-county community (St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert Counties). The fundraising event will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 12:00 – 2:30 P.M. The primary focus of bringing the community together is to educate and motivate people to action around issues affecting our youth – especially the Opioid Crisis.
Fundraising tickets are being sold in advance of the event and are $30/adult and children $10/child. A local pig (the Hartigan’s) was specially harvested and donated for this event and will be served with other locally grown produce. There will be guest speakers and table facilitators to address specific topics and encourage interactive learning and generation of ideas.
100% of funds raised will be donated to F4H for their Youth Outreach program, including replicating events like this one. For more information, visit F4H’s Youth Outreach Program online. Tickets are available at: Seeds of Change @ F4H Fundraising Event – Ticket Link Contact: Drew Hartigan – 240.925.4960, or Christy Hartigan – 240.925.5260 if you have questions.
Blessing of the Farm
Farming 4 Hunger’s annual “Blessing of the Farm” will be from 10 – 11:45 A.M. prior to the Seeds of Change event. This is an intentional, prayer and life-story-filled event to kick off a new season of growing food and ministry. Both events are children-friendly! Come meet our neighbors where they are and make new connections! All are fed at the farm.
As summer camp approaches, we want to take this opportunity to share the registration links and the final Open House date once again. Mar-Lu-Ridge Summer Camp is a safe, faith-centered outdoor experience for your camper, and a super fun way to connect with new friends and grow in faith and confidence. We offer residential camps for ages 6-17, Day Camp on-site for ages 6-10, and Mobile Mar Lu Day Camps for congregations. There are full week and half week options for residential campers, and a variety of specialty programs as well as traditional camps from which to choose. Visit the Mar-Lu-Ridge website to learn more!
Quality staff members share their gifts of faith and enthusiasm for the outdoors with our campers and have a lasting impression on the faith formation of young people. If you know someone between the ages of 18 and 25 who loves the Lord, loves the outdoors, and works well supervising and caring for youth, please encourage them to apply for our summer staff. We need just 1 or 2 more folks to complete our staff!
Contact Associate Director Amy Sowers for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org
Open House tour: The final Open House will be held Sunday, May 20 from 2-4:30 P.M. in Agape Hall. This is a great opportunity for tours, snacks, and a chance to meet the staff and have your questions answered. If you are not free to join that day, please contact the office to arrange a time. All are welcome!
Sermon: “A Message from Pastor Carlsen”
Prayer: O Lord Christ, good shepherd of the sheep, you seek the lost and guide us into your fold. Feed us, and we shall be satisfied; heal us, and we shall be whole. Make us one with you, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The sermon begins after the reading from John’s Gospel.
Sermon: “Peace, Presence, Repentance and Restoration”
Prayer: Holy and righteous God, you are the author of life, and you adopt us to be your children. Fill us with your words of life, that we may live as witnesses to the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Sermon: “Easter is Always a Surprise”
Prayer: O God, you gave your only Son to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, and by his glorious resurrection you delivered us from the power of death. Make us die every day to sin, that we may live with him forever in the joy of the resurrection, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
The sermon begins after the reading from Mark’s Gospel.
Sermon: “At the Crucifixion of Jesus we discover how broken the world is”
Prayer: O God of mercy and might, in the mystery of the passion of your Son you offer your infinite life to the world. Gather us around the cross of Christ, and preserve us until the resurrection, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The sermon begins after the reading of the Passion of Jesus from Mark’s Gospel – on the Sunday following the shooting at Great Mills High School (March 20, 2018)
