Sermon: “Out of Our Darkness and Into His Light”
Prayer: Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come. By your merciful protection save us from the threatening dangers of our sins, and enlighten our walk in the way of your salvation, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Youth Community Center Steering Committee is planning a Community Youth Mapping project that involves youth and adults in gathering, analyzing and disseminating information about community resources for youth, children and families. It will center on the Lexington Park area in an effort to identify the youth needs in the area and possibly move up the timeline for the youth center that is in the County capital improvements plan.
Here’s how you can help! We are looking for input and support from individuals and agencies in the area. If you or your organizations are interested in being a part of the Community Youth Mapping project, please come to the informational event on December 5th, 2-4 pm or 5-7 pm, at the Lexington Park Library. If you would like a one-on-one meeting about the project, please contact Mia Bowers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your support for this project! Please do send this information on to any other people/organizations who would be interested in hearing more about this project. Please see the flyer on the kiosk in the Church Narthex.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, George Washington Carver Elementary will open its door to invited families who need help for the upcoming holiday season. The selected families will be able to choose from new toys and household items (which we will wrap before they go home), as well as gently used items. Set up for the event is Dec. 2nd from 3:00 – 6:00 pm and family shopping is Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 9:00 am – Noon.
This is where we need your help! Starting November 1, 2016, G.W. Carver Elementary will be accepting new and used items for our families. Many new items that are needed are board games, puzzles, toys, blankets for the homes, etc. In addition, any gently used items (household items, toys, coats, etc.) is also needed. This is a great time to clean out your attics and basements and donate what you can. In addition, non-perishable food items are also accepted to help these families in need.
We are also looking for helpers on each day. On Friday, we will be setting up and sorting all of the items starting at 3 pm. On Saturday starting at 8:30 am, we need people who would like to help the families “shop,” as well as wrap the new items the families select.
If you are interested in donating and/or helping with this event, please contact Lisa McCoy (Parent Liaison at G.W. Carver Elementary) at email@example.com or 301-863-4076 ext. 44125.
Prayer: O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without you nothing is strong, nothing is holy. Embrace us with your mercy, that with you as our ruler and guide, we may live through what is temporary without losing what is eternal, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

If you are relatively new among us at Good Sam, we hope to welcome you and learn more about your journey of faith in these days. We believe we are here to walk with you and learn from each other about faith in God and life in Jesus. We invite you to join us for an event we call “Getting to Know Good Sam” to further this conversation. We will introduce you to some of our leaders, talk about life and ministry at Good Sam and we hope to hear a little about your hopes and needs in a faith community. There will be child care available. Please come and talk with us about how we can journey in faith with you.
We are looking to hire a Worship Accompanist to support music and planning for our 8:45 am Worship service. We include in this, accompanying our Choir at their rehearsal and when they bring music to worship. In addition, we are open to candidates who may be able to direct our choir as well as those who may be able to bring renewed expression to our musical gifts in Worship. Salary will range from $12,000 to $18,000 for this PT work (depending on skill level, experience and which components of this job the candidate is qualified in and ready to do). Please help us find capable, qualified candidates to help lead in our Worship and music expression. Please see Judy Kowalik or Pastor Mitch with any appropriate leads.
The Advent season begins November 27th. Celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, November 27th by making an Advent Arrangement for your home. This activity is for all ages and will take place between services at 10:15 am in the Fellowship Hall. Each family will design their own arrangement complete with LED candle to take home and enjoy in the weeks before Christmas. An Advent Devotion booklet will also be provided. Please let Martha R. know by November 20th if you would like to participate so there are enough supplies (firstname.lastname@example.org). Celebrate the days upcoming to Jesus’ birth and the meaning of Advent with a hand-made arrangement to teach and remind us of the beauty of this season.
