Icon1Lectio10BProjecPRAYER OF THE DAY  All-powerful God, in Jesus Christ you turned death into life and defeat into victory. Increase our faith and trust in him, that we may triumph over all evil in the strength  of the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

It’s hard to imagine that there was a time when most people thought the world was flat, with edges that one could fall over.  It kept some of our exploring behavior in check.  But, with knowledge that the world was round came great opportunity.  There were new worlds to discover and now we could get there and back.  The problem was that this knowledge didn’t come with the wisdom or understanding to use it well, and so explorers easily turned into conquerors.  Knowledge itself is not really a path toward wisdom, peace or faith.  The great theologian St. Augustine said, I believe that I may come to know.  Faith can actually inform knowledge.  Lord, teach us faith that we may come to know you and give ourselves to your ways in the world.
