families_6070cnGood Sam is taking a group to the Informational Meeting for the new Family Mentoring Program that is beginning this fall in St. Mary’s County. This program will focus on families who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness. Trained volunteers can make a difference and even help prevent homelessness. The Informational Meeting will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 11 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Lexington Park. If you’re interested in going or have questions, please talk with Pastor Mitch! All are welcome to the meeting.

The program is designed to help low-income families overcome the stresses that can severely disrupt family life. The foundation of this program will be our local churches who can commit to mentor one family for one year. The Department of Social Services will work with local clergy to pair a family having difficulties with one or more families from their churches. It is obvious that St. Mary’s County is full of many compassionate, caring people as demonstrated throughout the winter months during the WARM program. Let’s continue to find ways to diminish the suffering and isolation among those who are struggling financially and otherwise. Our community has the ability to make a difference.
