cookie clip art 2Our summer fellowship starts on Sunday, June 1 and runs through Labor Day. Fellowship will be a lite fare with coffee/ice tea/juices. All households are asked to donate one or two packages of cookies or snacks. And if you have any fruit coming in from your garden, that would always be welcomed. There is a donation box in the Fellowship Hall for summer fellowship. Thanks for all your help.

Fellowship News — posted May 16

(Written on Monday, May 12)

First, a great big thank-you to the April fellowship team: Ginger L., Kim B., Gail W., Ele B., and Laurie S. You all did a fantastic job, and the Easter morning brunch was over the top.

Maureen H. is joining the fellowship team and will be working with Ginger’s team. WELCOME ABOARD MAUREEN!!

strawberryMay 18 is Strawberry Sunday. The May team will have all the fixin’s for a “make your own strawberry sundae” table, but feel free to bring in any other kind of dessert.  Because of our cool spring, I don’t think many of our local strawberries are in yet so we will have to go to Plan B.

Last Sunday, May 11, we had a joint fellowship with Dominion Apostolic which was so much fun. They brought in lots of needed supplies (I think we have enough plates and napkins to last us the rest of the year) and bagels and donuts! I purchased six cans of regular coffee last week (because of the predicted price increase in coffee due to Brazil’s drought).

Summer fellowship will start on June 1. I am going to request two packages of cookies from the congregation to fill our pantry.

A special thank-you to Ginger L. who purchased a Swiffer-type terry cloth mop for our fellowship use. It is hanging in the pantry. And we will have to watch when the cloths need to be washed.

Upcoming events: Confirmation is scheduled on June 8 (so this will be a full-sheet cake Sunday) and the Blessing of the Grads will be held June 15. I will check if a cake is desired for this Sunday too.

Upcoming meeting: Now that Sunday School is over, we will be having a meeting (in June) to  discuss general fellowship issues. Some of the topics so far are: the high cost of our fellowship because of our growing congregation, banning brownies, how much cleaning should we be doing, purchasing two coffee pots to speed up the coffee line, what about gluten-free items, a bake-free Sunday of donuts.  Please let me know if you have any other items that we need to address.

We had a very nice fellowship yesterday and I just want to give a shout-out to Diane R. who made a large tray of petit fours. Well, they were so classy and yummy too.   Thanks.

Teacher Appreciation Sunday — June 22

Our last day for Sunday School (Pre-K through High School) was May 11. We will resume our classes in September. Special thanks will be given to all our wonderful, dedicated teachers on June 22 when we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Sunday. Have a great summer, everyone!

Baby Bottle Blitz — now through June 15

The Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland is having a Baby Bottle Blitz to raise funds for the Center’s ministry to women and babies. Bottles are available to pick up from an usher on Sunday morning or at the church office during the week. You can fill the bottles with loose change, cash, or a check. All bottles should be returned to the church on June 15 (Father’s Day). If you have any questions, you can call the Center at 301-737-4604. Thank you!

Food Shortage at Our Daily Bread Food Pantry

Food supplies are short! The Southern Maryland Food Bank has been closed 3 of the past 4 weeks due to a shortage in donations, meaning “Our Daily Bread” has had to close 3 days in April and 3 in March. We have hit the “summer doldrums” 2 months early. The need for nonperishable food items for our neighbors will become an even bigger issue as we get to summer and kids are out of school, meaning they will need to get two meals a day at home instead of at school.

Any and all donations are deeply appreciated. Staples needed include cereals, pasta, mac & cheese, baked beans, veggies, and canned meats. We received over 200 cans of tuna during Lent, and are blessed by a local resident who has provided fresh produce to the pantry. The need is great. Thank you for sharing!
