During the Sundays after Epiphany we explore the unfolding or unveiling of God’s activity as an increasingly bright light of hope for those who love God.  Today on Transfiguration Sunday not only do the disciples have more revealed to them about who Jesus is, but also that there is more going on in and through the life of Jesus than they had previously imagined.  This vision of Jesus on the mountain with Moses and Elijah begins to help the disciples think about the meaning of events that have yet to fully unfold.  For the disciples, this vision will help them make sense of Jesus’ death and resurrection.   Perhaps this suggests that having a vision of the transfiguration of Jesus is as much about our transformation as it is about who Jesus is.

Perhaps this vision may also teach us about how God is preparing us today for what we will need to walk our faith journeys tomorrow.  God is regularly shaping our faith today for tomorrow’s challenge and opportunities.    Maybe we too need vision to help us fully understand the cross and resurrection of Jesus and our own becoming God’s own people.
